Carbon Calculators

How to reduce the carbon footprint of your campaign? Start by measuring it! The free tools of CommToZero will do exactly that.

Media Carbon Calculator
The Media Carbon Calculator has been updated during the course of 2023 to match with the Belgian media scene. All inputs are now based on the offers that are available in the market.  To create a level playing field for all media, the total life cycle is considered. But : only the stages that have a meaningful contribution have been taken into account now.  These are the 4 stages of the life cycle:
1    Prepare for consumption: a file on a server, printing a magazine, newspaper, poster, mailing.
2    Distribution: broadcasting, emitting, sending via cable or IP, transport online, physical transport.
3    Consumption: using a device to consume electronic media, cinema projectors, and illuminated billboards.
    4    End-of-Life: recycling, waste management, deleting files…

When using the calculator, it is indicated what stages are taken into account, and what stages are considered as not (or little) impactful in the carbon production of a media campaign.
Everything that has to do with the production of an ad is part of the production calculator.
